Pair of Anna's Hummingbirds!

Note exquisite plumage, but also cobweb strand from beak to forehead. Must have swooping through branches.
Such poise. I frequently assume such an attitude before a snack.
This sequence of the male is to show how the structure of the gorget and head feathers causes delightful refraction of light. Pity it's been so grey, of late....

Can't be sticking his tongue out at me. Must be cleaning beak

Good colour changes, eh?

Running Pit Falls!!! Photos just in!!!

Andy and I run the Falls. Notice I am still steering us toward the desirable tongue section, whilst Andy is shrieking like a banshee, swatting the grasses at his right, and grabbing either my wallet or something only he could see that promised salvation. We made it, as you know, one of us slightly deaf in right ear. What?

Andy Baxter, Steve Kiesling, and yrs. truly. Have no idea why I look so tall.

Pit River, CA. View of Pit Falls (center back). Andy and I ran the slide section, part of the paddle from Fall River Mills (where it joins the Pit River) to #1 Powerhouse. Southeast of McCloud, CA, North of Lassen. One of 4 dam-release days of the year that make the Pit runnable. Thanks, Andy!

Fall River Hotel, Fall River Mills, CA. Dominic, Andy Baxter, and Steve Kiesling on rafting adventure stop sustinence (we ate across the street, where all the cars were parked in front of a diner.
