Do not have pictures (yet).
Cooper's Hawk keeps making reconnaissance missions around the feeders, perching long enough to see, not long enough to photograph. But I am patient. Female flicker chasing off HUGE male flicker--very funny. Hummingbirds humming. New deer with velvety antlers going by. Another day in Ashland.... Send chocolate.

Learning to accomodate the limitations of camera phone
Lovely White Rabbit (note pocketwatch) made by Shirley Ernst, Grand Sage of Childrens Literature. |
Hadn't seen such lovely decoration on old Singer before. |
Yum. |
Have you seen any of these, but other foot? Please send. |
View back from Dead Indian Memorial Road ascent. Part of Lakes Loop from Ashland. Total gain for 55 mile loop: 7313'. Ow. |
'Nother view. If you click to enlarge (Mom) the stripey mountain left of center in the distance is Mt Ashland festooned with ski runs. |
Mt Mc Laughlin, my fave. |
Those two blobs in middle of picture, one whiter, are sandhill cranes. Phone camera zoom is garbage. |

More Acorn Woodpecker (there were two, just then). |
Yes, ANOTHER American Goldfinch. |
Equal time for juncos! It has a magnificent tail, but not enough patience to stick around until I un-zoomed. NOTE: fabulous eyelashes! (Click on the picture, Mom!) |

I Knew it Was Too Quiet this Morning! And Then, Again! Two Days Later! !
April has gone out with a bang. Or three. Bird feeder hangy-things. |
The wreckage of two caged-cylinder feeders... cage lid... |
...tube-feeder lid...sniff, sniff... |
...scattered... |
...hither and yon (suet feeder top left, hangy-thing top right, cage and cyclnder-feeder at bottom)... |
(possible evidence) |
...chaos beyond comprehension! |
Whodunit? |
Who indeed? |
Savaged double-wide suet feeder. I hope it gets indigestion! |
The slaughter was followed by a day of rising early to hang the feeders for morning birdies, and then an experiment: one feeder out all night, hung from a sturdy branch on one of the above shepherd's crook hangy-things. No branches, lateral or inferior to grant access.
Oh, well. |
But this is only the beginning. Somewhere, evil mammals lurk, dreaming of the coming night's raid. Will it be their last?
Raccoon(s)? Bear? (Snoofles! Not you!). Probably raccoon, but if so, I am impressed by their strength to bend feeder hanger metal, and also hangy-things. No wonder they wear masks. Cowards. Take heed!
